چکیده

CORA is a robotic assistant whose task is to collaborate with a human operator on simple manipulation or handling tasks. Its sensory channels comprising vision, audition, haptics, and force sensing are used to extract perceptual information about speech, gestures and gaze of the operator, and object recognition. The anthropomorphic robot arm makes goaldirected movements to pick up and hand-over objects. The human operator may mechanically interact with the arm by pushing it away (haptics) or by taking an object out of the robot’s gripper (force sensing). The design objective has been to exploit the human operator’s intuition by modeling the mechanical structure, the senses, and the behaviors of the assistant on human anatomy, human perception, and human motor behavior.

Design and Fabrication of a Portable 1-DOF Robotic Device for Indentation Tests

There are many tactile devices for indentation examinations to measure mechanical properties of tissue. The purpose of this paper is to develop a portable indentation robotic device to show its usability for measuring the mechanical properties of a healthy abdominal tissue. These measurements will help to develop suitable mathematical models representing abdominal tissue. A 1-DOF portable robot...

Definition of actuation and kinematics capabilities of robotic hands for grasping and manipulation of common objects

The design and realization of multifingered hands is an important research topic in the robotic community and it has been widely studied since the mid 80s. Despite the initial purpose in developing such devices was to overcome the lack of flexibility of traditional end-effectors, nowadays one of the driving issues is to mimic the humans hand capabilities and, more in general, to improve their l...

“Who’s Johnny?” Anthropomorphic framing in human-robot interaction, integration, and policy [PRELIMINARY DRAFT]

As we increasingly create spaces where robotic technology interacts with humans, our tendency to project lifelike qualities onto robots raises questions around use and policy. Based on a human-robot-interaction experiment conducted in our lab, this paper explores the effects of anthropomorphic framing in the introduction of robotic technology. It discusses concerns about anthropomorphism in cer...
